0 Vortex Matter and its Phase Transitions
The mixed state of type II superconductors has magnetic flux penetrating the sample in the form of vortices, with each vortex carrying an identical quantum of flux. These vortices generally form a triangular lattice under weak mutually repulsive forces; the lattice spacing can be easily varied over many orders of magnitude by varying the external magnetic field. The elastic moduli of this latti...
متن کاملEquilibration and dynamic phase transitions of a driven vortex lattice.
We report on the observation of two types of current driven transitions in metastable vortex lattices. The metastable states, which are missed in usual slow transport measurements, are detected with a fast transport technique in the vortex lattice of undoped 2H-NbSe2. The transitions are seen by following the evolution of these states when driven by a current. At low currents we observe an equi...
متن کاملThe Formation of Vortex Loops (Strings) in Continuous Phase Transitions
The formation of vortex loops (global cosmic strings) in an O(2) linear sigma model in three spatial dimensions is analyzed numerically. For over-damped Langevin dynamics we find that defect production is suppressed by an interaction between correlated domains that reduces the effective spatial variation of the phase of the order field. The degree of suppression is sensitive to the quench rate....
متن کاملDisordering transitions in vortex matter: peak effect and phase diagram
Using numerical simulations of magnetically interacting vortices in disordered layered superconductors we obtain the static vortex phase diagram as a function of magnetic field and temperature. For increasing field or temperature, we find a transition from ordered straight vortices to disordered decoupled vortices. This transition is associated with a peak effect in the critical current. For sa...
متن کاملPhase transitions and vortex structures in multicomponent superconductors
Theoretical aspects of multicomponent superconductivity and systems with competing interactions are studied using Monte Carlo techniques. Motivated by recent experimental and theoretical results of complex structure formation of vortices in multicomponent systems, possible vortex structure formations due to vortex interactions that are not purely attractive or repulsive are considered. Vortex s...
